Creating a greener, more sustainable neighbourhood
Sustainability is at the heart of our plans for Hardingstone Rise. From how the new homes are located to the materials we use, everything is being designed to help people live well and protect local nature – while supporting West Northamptonshire council’s wider environmental goals.
Details of how we will incorporate sustainability are provided below:
Landscaping
Natural green spaces and drainage areas
At the heart of the new community will be ‘The Rise’ – a linear park, as well as allotments, play areas and natural areas offering space for walking, play and community events. These green spaces will also help manage rainwater naturally and reduce the risk of flooding.
Biodiversity
10% biodiversity net gain
We’ll create more space for nature than exists today, delivering at least a 10% biodiversity net gain. This includes planting new trees, creating wildflower meadows and introducing wildlife corridors so birds, insects and small animals can thrive alongside the local community.
Energy-efficient homes
Sustainable homes designed to lower household bills
All homes will be built using modern methods of construction, designed to reduce carbon emissions and lower household energy bills. Energy-efficient insulation, low-carbon heating solutions and the use of sustainable building materials will help future-proof these homes for generations to come.
Sustainable travel
Creating a safe place for walking and cycling
We’re making it easier for people to walk, cycle or use public transport – with safe paths connecting to schools, local shops and Northampton town centre. This will help reduce car use and support active, healthy lifestyles.
Wildlife and habitats
Nature-friendly design
From hedgehog highways to bird and bat boxes, the development will include small but important features that support local wildlife. Nature play areas will also help bring families closer to the natural world.
